Abstract: Restoration of Shoulder Motion Using Single Versus Dual Nerve Repair in Obstetric Brachial Plexus Injury

چکیده
INTRODUCTION: Free functioning muscle transfers (FFMTs), nerve grafting and nerve transfers have led to improved functional outcomes in brachial plexus injury (BPI) patients. Reports have shown that 39% of FFMTs and 26% of nerve transfers for elbow flexion achieve ≥ M4 elbow flexion strength.1 However, there remains a substantial number of patients with less favorable functional outcomes that need to be addressed further.

Clinical and neuropathological study about the neurotization of the suprascapular nerve in obstetric brachial plexus lesions
BACKGROUND The lack of recovery of active external rotation of the shoulder is an important problem in children suffering from brachial plexus lesions involving the suprascapular nerve. The accessory nerve neurotization to the suprascapular nerve is a standard procedure, performed to improve shoulder motion in patients with brachial plexus palsy. METHODS We operated on 65 patients with obstet...
متن کاملComparison of nerve transfers and nerve grafting for traumatic upper plexus palsy: a systematic review and analysis.
BACKGROUND In treating patients with brachial plexus injury, there are no comparative data on the outcomes of nerve grafts or nerve transfers for isolated upper trunk or C5-C6-C7 root injuries. The purpose of our study was to compare, with systematic review, the outcomes for modern intraplexal nerve transfers for shoulder and elbow function with autogenous nerve grafting for upper brachial plex...
متن کاملEffect of virtual reality versus conventional physiotherapy on upper extremity function in children with obstetric brachial plexus injury
OBJECTIVES The objective was to evaluate the effects of virtual reality versus conventional physiotherapy on upper extremity function in children with obstetric brachial plexus injury. METHODS Forty children with Erb's palsy were selected for this randomized controlled study. They were assigned randomly to either group A (conventional physiotherapy program) or group B (virtual reality program...
متن کاملThe Incidence of Ossified Superior Transverse Scapular Ligament during Nerve Transfer through Posterior Shoulder Approach
Background: The purpose of this study was to assess the incidence and importance of bony bridge that covers thesupra scapular notch during posterior approach to transfer accessory nerve to suprascapular nerve. Methods: Between 2010 and 2015, the frequency and importance of suprascapular bony bridge instead of transverseligament was assessed among patients with brachial plexus i...
متن کاملReconstruction of pediatric brachial plexus injuries with nerve grafts and nerve transfers.
PURPOSE To review the demographics and injury patterns in consecutive pediatric patients with traumatic brachial plexus injury presenting to a single center over a 16-year period and to review the outcomes of nerve grafting and nerve transfers for reconstruction of shoulder abduction and elbow flexion in these patients. METHODS Forty-five pediatric patients presented for treatment of traumati...
